Charles helps the 164 slaves he purchased heal and transform from a life of slavery and abuse to a life of freedom and pride. He travels to Boston to assist his young protégé, Harvard student Conner Godfrey, who is having trouble with a local ruffian and his gang who have robbed him and are threatening further harm. While in Boston, Charles encounters his old friend, Colonel Hawks, attends another slave auction and buys all of the slaves once again. He stops in Louisville to see how his old friend, Sheriff Morgan Mann, is getting along. Charles finds himself involved in a conflict when a local man decides that Gray Wolf and Swimming Otter shouldn’t be there.

Charles plans a trip to England with Gray Wolf, Swimming Otter, and their families. But the day before he leaves, a ghost from the past appears and challenges Charles’s right to the horse farm, the construction company, and Charles’s bank account. After a dramatic shootout in the construction office, Charles and the families leave for England. There, he finds his old friend and hired hand on his deathbed, and decides to take him to the Royal London Hospital. Charles uncovers a plot in which a man plans to destroy the distillery’s ability to produce wine and scrambles to stop him. Charles scours England for fruit trees, making friends and enemies as he travels. He finds his beloved Friesian stallion shot in the head, and is framed for his new friend's murder. Charles, Gray Wolf, and Swimming Otter end up in a battle with the London's King’s College's star wrestling team. Charles has a vision and informs Gray Wolf and Swimming Otter what the future holds for them.

Charles, George, Gray Wolf, and Swimming Otter travel to Denver to seek the help of Hunt-U.S. Marshal to investigate the death of Colonel Hawks. Gray Wolf has an interest in becoming a U.S. Deputy Marshal, so Hunt makes Gray Wolf a temporary marshal and assigns him the task of riding with the posse and investigating the death of Colonel Hawks. Charles discovers a need for dairy, chicken, and pork products and looks for land to begin a large industrial farm, and searches for a building in Denver to establish a warehouse and a store front. While riding to discover new land Charles is bushwhacked by two criminals on the run, robbed  and left for dead. A massive manhunt is instigated by Hunt and the other available U.S. Deputy Marshals. Charles is found near death and is transported to a hospital in New Orleans where he awakens, but doesn’t know who he is and is surrounded by people that he has no memory of.

This episode of Storm Warrior is a twist of health crises, birth, danger, prejudice, hard-won growth and an angry neighbor. When Charles's head wound becomes infected, he, George and Judith rush to New Orleans, where doctors save his life as Judith gives birth. His recovery is slow, leaving a six-week memory gap. Back in Denver, Charles sets his sights on new land, including the site of his bushwhacking, and a Kansas City trip yields a surprising discovery. With Darren, he launches a massive construction project, but hiring 1,000 workers he needs to compete off the street proves difficult: white laborers' hatred toward Black and Chinese workers threatens to derail it all, forcing Charles to confront a conflict he must overcome or fail.

Charles returns home to find some railroad workers have quit, prompting a trip to Boston to check on Conner, recruit new men, and attend a slave auction. He searches for the inventor of an artificial ice machine and reconnects with Captain Blanchard, summoned to Washington D.C. over Colonial Hawks's death. A rival threatens Charles's life over stolen railroad contracts, but the conflict resolves in an unexpected way. Charles stays busy shipping equipment for his store, ranches, and farm in Denver while hunting for top-grade livestock. Meanwhile, Judith's mother suffers a near-fatal seizure and fall, and Judith fights to save her. Then a stranger arrives demanding to buy Charles's prize stallion, Warrior, and when Charles refuses, the man accuses him of horse theft, dragging him into a legal battle.

Charles hires men to run his new farm and food store, but one hire, a sullen loner, forces Charles to reflect on his own attitude, leading to a surprising turnaround during their trip to Utah. There, he also finds the ideal man to oversee the entire agriculture operation and settles a potentially dangerous dispute between towns feuding over the railroad's route. Back in Denver, old nemesis Fergus Atwood arrives with a court order to claim Charles's prize stallion, sparking a legal battle and testing Charles's temper until Hunt steps in. Between livestock-hunting trips that steadily build up his farm, Charles spots news of a big horse race in New Orleans and decides to pit his stallion against the best - an adventure that wins him both new friends and dangerous enemies.

Back in Philadelphia, Charles is flooded with offers for Warrior's stud services and pressured by a renowned trainer to either keep racing him or hand him over, and he ultimately agrees to send the stallion to Virginia to train for Saratoga's famous race. Charles then travels to the Illinois-Wisconsin border, where a gunman has wounded one of his workers, and deals with trouble at a hotel bar, where Bernard was beaten defending his business. Amid mounting obstacles, Charles visits U.S. Marshal headquarters in Chicago and meets Marshal Bekins.

Charles returns home from a tiring trip to Denver and receives a troubling letter from England. Charles needs to travel to England, but Judith doesn’t want to take the children, so she resolves to stay home, even though she knows that Charles will be gone for weeks. After setting things right in England, Charles returns to America. Three days into their voyage back the ship is attacked by a Spanish warship.

Packed with action, business, and courtroom drama, this episode finds Charles tackling old business, including The Ponderosa restaurant. In Denver, he resolves construction crew issues, then is recruited to help Hunt drive bandits off his seized ranch, and grows fed up with horse breeders demanding stud rights through unreasonable contracts, eventually banning several for good. With George running the food store, Charles looks for a new travel companion and is shocked by an offer from an old friend. He heads to Baltimore to confront a powerful man threatening the railroad, but on the way, bandits after his horse, Wind Fire, ambush his train. After surviving an attack at sea only 6 weeks earlier, Charles's fury explodes into a shootout, but his gun runs empty mid-fight.

This adventure takes Charles back in time when a warrior he knew as a young brave arrives in Denver, seeking his help with troubling news. Unsure but willing to try, Charles must travel north to the Sioux Valley, with Gray Wolf and Swimming Otter insisting on riding along. Torn between pressing problems at home and the warrior's urgent plea to prevent war, Charles turns to prayer for an answer.

Charles and Ghost build a relationship, and Charles takes him on many trips so Ghost learns how to work with others, and understand how the businesses operate. Trouble in the new Chicago to New York track job forces Charles to investigate and Ghost travels with him to see how his father settles an explosive situation. Disturbing news of a small wagon train massacre leaves Charles worried that the Sioux could be in danger. Abraham Lincoln has been elected president and the south is threatening to withdraw from the Union. Fort Sumter in South Carolina is bombarded by Confederate Soldiers. Charles is devastated when he learns that his son has run away from home to join the army.

The civil war battles continue. Charles is disturbed when he hears of the number of men killed and missing, he spends much time at home with the children and prays daily for his son’s safe return. A few new construction jobs are offered, but Charles can’t get his mind into the business. All he can think of is Ghost. Ghost’s company returns to Harrisburg and is disbanded. Not willing to leave the army, he reenlists with another regiment, the 16th Cavalry Regiment, headed by Colonel John Irvin Greg. Ghost finds himself in imminent danger when their lines are overrun with Confederates near a place known as Gettysburg.
