The trial and sale of the ranch and livestock fall on Hunt’s shoulders as he tries to complete the sale of his own cattle and hogs. Hunt interviews and assigns the cowboys from the BSMR to different jobs and different locations. Hunt’s men hit the trail with the new man Earl had assigned to replace Ace. The fifteen-year-old Rudy Brown returned to Denver and asked Hunt for a job. Hunt longs to go on the mission with his men but is under strict orders to remain in Denver. It would not end well if his name ended up on a report back to Chicago. Hunt was pleased to get a letter from his long-lost sister with a surprising request. Horse endures a devastating loss, and Hunt is worried about his mental state and tries to help.
