Hunt begins this phase of his life by attempting to capture the leader of the wild horse herd, known as the Golden Stallion. A magnificent stallion that has avoided capture with its band of 30 ladies for over five years. U.S. Deputy Marshal Roy Thatcher escorts the young Mexican boy, Antonio Lopez, back to Mexico and agrees to return him and his mother, Camila, to Denver for a new, safer life after much begging on their part. Hunt is sitting at his favorite table in the Hotel’s bar, reading a paper, when a young man approaches and asks him to stand and draw his gun. “I plan to kill you,” the young man says with steel in his eyes. Being tipped off, Hunt and the men prepare for an attack by a group of Georgia marauders who plan to kill Hunt, rob the bank and the stores, shoot everyone they see, and burn the town. Outnumbered two to one, Hunt and his deputies are in for the fight of their lives. Ex-U.S. Deputy Marshal Jerome Bridger rides into town to see Hunt and reports that a herd of cattle being driven south has been stolen. Against U.S. Marshal Earl Jefferson’s orders, Hunt leads the men on a chase that ends in a gun battle. Hunt hires a new Deputy Marshal to replace Bridge, which the others suspect is a mistake. Hunt goes by his intuition and sends the young man to Chicago for training.
